ANATOMY

The Labia Library

Ever wondered if you vulva is normal? We all have. Ever gone online and googled "normal vagina", only to be faced with an onslaught of perfectly pink porn-star vulvas? Well the Labia Library is here to help and prove to you that just like all other parts of our bodies, the labia comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors! We are all normal!

Pussypedia

Advice: Grab a mirror and this manual and look at your vagina. (or if you are a dude, read the damn manual...I can guarantee that if you are a dude who has sex with people with vaginas, you NEED to know the parts...otherwise you probably aren't that good in bed). Vaginas come in all shapes and sizes (Yes, that means even YOUR vagina is normal). Unfortunately, many women have NEVER looked at their vagina (you should because they are beautiful...oh also, it helps when it comes to masturbating and pleasure and fun stuff).

Hollaback!

This is a great platform for women seeking solidarity after sexual assault, being catcalled, and more. Women can share their own experiences and learn about others (you are not alone) through their website, facebook page, and app! There are also Hollaback chapters in MANY cities around the world--so if you are someone who has experienced street harassment--Hollaback (because this organization has got your back!)

CONTRACEPTION

Bedsider.org

This website is an incredible Birth Control Support Network. Here you can find approachable and reliable information on various birth control methods, as well as videos on people's experiences using different methods (even one's from the guy's perspective). They have a method explorer (my favorite thing EVER), a birth control reminder app, can help you find a provider,  and much more. It is a really fun website to explore. Even if you are satisfied with your birth control and are interested in getting some fun sex-facts, check this website out. It's like cosmo but better and like legit.

Guttmacher Institute

The Guttmacher Institute is an incredible resource with information on Abortion, Contraception, HIV & STIs, Pregnancy, and Teens (both International and in the United States). They publish research and articles on policy. Their mission statement: "The Guttmacher Institute is a leading research and policy organization committed to advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights in the United States and globally". If you like scientific articles, if you like policy and law, if you like evidence-based advocacy, if you are interested in reproductive health...I urge you to explore the website! Also great if you have a presentation on any of aforementioned topics for statistics and data and fun numbers!

DOCUMENTARIES

After Tiller (2013)

A must-watch Emmy-winning documentary that in the wake of the 2009 murder of Dr. George Tiller follows the only four remaining doctors in the U.S. who openly perform late term abortion (yes, there are only FOUR...in the whole country).  For those of you who are like, well late term abortions are an abomination, I suggest you watch this movie and gain some empathy. While the majority of abortions (89-92%) occur in the first trimester (before the 13th week), 1.2% occur at or after 21 weeks. Late-term abortions most often occur when the mothers life is in danger, and/or when fetal abnormalities/ inviability are found. But I can't tell you the stories of the numerous women seeking out late term abortions...this film can.

The Hunting Ground (2015)

Available on Netflix. This film tackles the incidence of sexual assault on college campuses in the United States and the failure of college administrations to deal with it adequately.

Trapped (2016)

From director Dawn Porter, TRAPPED goes into U.S. reproductive health care clinics which are fighting to remain open in the face of TRAP Laws (Targeted Regulations of Abortion Providers). Since 2010, 288 TRAP laws have been passed, making clinics fight to stay open, making it harder and harder for women to access safe, legal abortions. Winner of the Special Jury Award for Social Impact Filmmaking at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.

Vessel (2014)

Available on Netflix. Vessel is about Dr. Rebecca Gomperts and her project Women on Waves, and the creation of an underground network whose aim is to put abortion in women's hands. Beginning with ship campaigns, in which women living in countries where abortion is illegal, could be taken into international waters on a Dutch-flag carrying ship, to have medical abortions (with pills), the film extends to show how social activists have developed abortion hotlines around the world, educating women on the ways to take abortion in their own hands (by training women to give themselves safe abortions using WHO-sanctioned protocols with pills) , even in places where abortion is illegal. The documentary won the Audience Award for Documentary in Competition and a Special Jury Award for Political Courage at the 2014 South by Southwest Film Festival. If you are seeking information on Women on Waves or their sister organization Women on the Web, or seeking information on how to have a medical abortion please visit https://www.womenonweb.org/ or email them at info@womenonweb.org.

Rutgers

Rutgers is an amazing organization that performs research on all areas of sexual health and rights (sexuality education, contraception, more) both internationally and within the Netherlands. They have incredible programs ll around the world. It is impossible to put Rutgers in one realm of sexual health and rights. I found them through their impeccable sexuality education programs (watch video here), but continue to be amazed by them in all their endeavors.

LOVE & RELATIONSHIPS

5 Love Languages

There are five love languages (Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time, Physical Touch). All of us need all of the languages, but there are certain ones that affect certain people more or is how they primarily connect with other people. The online quiz is a great way for you to discover your own emotional communication preference, so that you may use it to connect and deepen your relationships. My top ones are Quality Time and Physical Touch. I think everyone should take this quiz and share their results with friends and lovers. I honestly have made all of my close friends take it and it has improved my relationships tremendously. Plus doesn't love an online quiz

PLEASURE

OMG Yes

You may have heard the dope shout out Emma Watson gave to this really cool website. OMG Yes goes into specific detail on the various ways different women find pleasure (even showing your how!), it is like education porn (but like without the over sexualization or often misogynistic portrayals certain porn focuses on...no cum shot). It is also all based on research (for you nerds out there, like me) from 2,000 women aged 18-95(!). Sex and orgasm and pleasure can be frustrating sometime. Especially for women. Because, in case you haven't noticed...people don't really talk about female pleasure. The researchers met with tons of women and asked them how they masturbated and then women would not only tell them, but SHOW them. So this website can actually SHOW you how to masturbate (finger movements and all). So go out there and get to pleasing yourself!

Unlocking Authentic Sexual Well Being (TEDx talk by Emily Nagoski)

We all have tons of questions about ourselves and our sexuality...they all are basically asking: AM I NORMAL? Yes you are normal. Sex Educator, Emily Nagoski (also author of Come as You Are) talks about what it means to unlock your sexuality (SPOILER: Confidence and Joy)...but hey, that is easier said than done! But Emily provides WAYS to help you gain confidence and joy...she even gives you a bit of homework!

REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE

(def) As defined by Sister Song, Reproductive Justice as the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities.

Reproductive Justice Briefing Booklet

"A Primer on Reproductive Justice and Social Change". The booklet covers everything from What is Reproductive Justice (by Loretta Ross of Sister Song) to Sex, Lies, and Birth Control: What You Need to Know About Your Birth Control Campaign (because not all Birth Control campaigns are created equal, just as all methods are not created equal and not all bodies react the same to methods) to Disabled Women and Reproductive Justice (by Mia Mingus, Georgians for Choice), to Reproductive Justice and LGBTQ+ Liberation (by Alisa Wellek and Miriam Yeung) to the relation of Environmental Justice and Reproductive Justice. Basically this is a great guid for anyone hoping to expand and get a start on their intersectional repetoire.

Sister Song

Sister Song is a Reproductive Justice collective for Women of Color. In so many ways, the successes of sexual and reproductive health has been built on the back of black women and people of color, and without recognition of their contributions and without recognition of the many injustices and abuses their bodies have faced in "the name of science".
